Practical Mathematics for Grade 12, Problem ID: 5329

Practical Mathematics K12You may have heard the expression "The shortest distance between two points is a straight line."
I have drawn a straight line on the map, directly along one of the grid lines of the map. Is this the shortest path for a ship to travel? (Neglecting winds, tides and so on.)

(NOTE: this is for a ship, not a submarine!)
